Working Hours
Working Hours in Nepal
1. Standard Work Hours
- Daily Limit: 9 hours per day
- Weekly Limit: 45 hours per week
- Work Week: Typically Monday to Friday ( Saturday and Sunday are public holidays )
Any work beyond these limits qualifies as overtime.
2. Overtime Rules
Maximum Overtime:
- 4 hours per day
- 20 hours per week
- 100 hours per month (absolute maximum)
Overtime Pay:
- 1.5 times the employee’s regular hourly wage
Example: If a worker earns NPR 100/hour normally, overtime pay would be NPR 150/hour.
3. Rest and Breaks
- Employees are entitled to a 30-minute break after 5 continuous hours of work.
- Weekly Day Off: 1 full day per week (commonly Saturday).
